Your life begins when you do . . .

IMG_2403 (2)I have been traveling abroad over the last few weeks and am now spending a few days in Athens, Greece in a little apartment with a beautiful garden terrace, billowing soft white curtains and great wifi. Life is good.

This post from popped up this morning, and it reminded me how dramatically my life changed when I began living it!

I read Mary Anne Radmacher’s inspirational little book Life Begins When You Do back in 2011 when I wrote this post. For those of you who are letting life pass you by, please don’t! I began living mine more fully about 20 years ago, and almost every day continues to surprise and delight me.

Mary Anne Radmacher’s words . . .

Nearly everyone postpones one grand thing or a collection of mighty hopes and dreams.

Between the quote marks of our lives are phrases like these: “When things slow down…when I finish my degree…when I get certified…as I acquire a deeper knowledge base…when I have kids…when the kids are grown…when I get well…when I marry…when I divorce…when I retire…when I get that promotion, that raise, that job, that house, that whatever the fill-in-the blank is for your specific postponing of life…”

Your Life Begins When You Do.

You may think you are postponing the longing of your soul until life aligns itself with your vision, until elements conspire to be more favorable…but as it happens, life just lolls along at the same remarkable consistent and disinterested cadence. Life is impartial. YOUR personal, subjective life (dreams, satisfactions, contentment, achievements, vision, fullness, passion, aspirations) begins when you begin.

From my teens into adulthood, I said, “I want to be an artist.” One day I changed the sentence to, “I am an artist.” My view changed. Life began. I looked behind me and saw that I had been accidentally living as an artist. I had been laying down a path that was only now visible to eyes that had begun to see. Beginning my life as an artist made my heart’s longing and the small, tentative labors of my hands – visible and tangible. I began by opening the door and simply believing that I could live my dream. I began living that dream by seeing that I could.

Your purpose, that thing that among the many to-dos of your days, is what you must do. Embrace the truth of your purpose each minute of your precious life…for how very true it is that life begins when you do.

If you would dream it . . . BEGIN it.

If you have an idea . . . OPEN it.

If there is longing . . . ACKNOWLEDGE it.

If there is mission . . . COMMIT it.

If there is daring . . . DO it.

If there is love  . . . SPEAK it.

If there is resource  . . . USE it.

Don’t delay living the life of your dreams. You can begin this weekend. Check my Resource section and posts to get started.

With hope and dreams,

Patrice

Reflections

 xoan seoane mr-retrovisor-at-the-park-again

“When you look at yourself do you like what you see?
If you like what you see you’re the person you should be
Cause your reflection reflects in everything you do
And everything you do reflects on you.

When you wake up each day do you like how you feel?
If you like how you feel you’ve got nothing to conceal
Cause your reflection reflects in everything you do
And everything you do reflects on you.

When you lay down to sleep do you like all your dreams?
If you like all your dreams life’s as happy as it seems
Cause your reflection reflects in everything you do
And everything you do reflects on you.”

Sounds like a kids song, but the lyrics are from the 1973 musical version of “The Lost Horizon.” And, simple as they are, they ring true!

Burt Bacharach wrote the music; Hal David wrote the lyrics. The movie was a major box office and critical flop, but the words stuck in my head when I was flipping through channels early this morning . . . “Cause your reflection reflects in everything you do, And everything you do reflects on you”!

Looking ahead . . .

Patrice Koerper Wishful Thinkking Works

Start the today by looking ahead – the next hour, day, or week might be the turning point you’ve been hoping for.

Until then, be patient, appreciative, and kind – disappointment or delay are not a pass to treat ourselves or others poorly.

Keep looking forward and predicting and doing better; do not give up on yourself or your dreams.

Reassess and redirect as needed, but stay the course – you are worth every step.

The journey is often part of the prize, pay attention to the rewards hidden along the route, there may be gems along the way.

Then . . . let the rest take care of itself.

Landing your dreams!

Talk about Wishful Thinking working, today NASA landed the rover “Curiosity” on Mars!

The Curiosity’s voyage to Mars took more than eight months and spanned 352 million miles!

Curiosity is not the first rover on Mars nor will it be the last, so it might be hard to remember when landing anything on Mars was considered “wishful thinking”, a pipe dream, or impossible. And, as we all know now, the naysayers were absolutely wrong!

What dreams are circling your world? Which ones have you been ignoring, putting off, or too shy to even admit?

Don’t let the naysayers (include the ones in your head) hold you back. Start dreaming.

I truly believe wishful thinking works, that it is the first step in realizing our dreams.  Before we can do, we need to dream. I think the best way to do that is to figure out how we want to feel and how we want our lives to look and be.

In honor of the Curiosity’s mission to “see” what’s happening on Mars, why not take a new look at your dreams? Let your curiosity run wild. Click here for free Wishful Thinking Works resources to get you started.

If you already know what you want, then start doing – make the call, sign-up, say your sorry or goodbye, send the application, start saving, exercising, listening, loving, reading, writing  . . .  take a step in the direction of your dreams.

Don’t waste another minute, get started today creating the life you really want. NASA landed the rover on Mars- where will your dreams land you?

One year ago today . . .

This week I finally got back to Dream Café, and had a perfect cup of cappuccino and a delicious Choco Loco! If you live in Bitola visit Dream Café in New Bitola by the pazzar for a one of their delicious hot or cold coffee drinks – they are dreamy! I will be there this Saturday.

One year ago today . . .

As bad as our economic crisis is, the economics of life in Macedonia are much worse.  Double digit unemployment is a way of life – 30%+ is normal, and yet the entrepreneurial spirit prevails.

I am continually humbled by the number of people here, who are creating the lives they want as they tip-toe through and leap over the obstacles in their paths.

Here are the results of believing your dreams can come true . . .

Dream Cafe, Bitola, Macedonia

My friends Pece and Marie are a unique couple in many ways.  They have successfully blended their cultures, and use their many talents to combine their dreams.  I was thrilled to be here for the opening of their new café.  I spent many, many Saturday mornings with friends at their previous café in the old Turkish market in Bitola.  “Dream Café” is in a great location, next to the new green market in Bitola.

Pece and Marie

Their cappuccino is the best in Macedonia. (My close up shot of a perfect cup was not so perfect – next visit!)  Pece is a coffee connoisseur, blending each batch of beans with just the right amount of options for his customers.

Every special event means great chocolates will be on-hand for guests.

Lots of delicious choices, even better then Starbucks - alcohol allowed. :-)

Friends old and new, Nikola, Jovan and Dan, enjoying coffee.

Pece and Marie make and serve each cup with pride and precision!

Pece capturing a moment. Seating inside and out.

Congratulations again, to my two wonderful friends Pece and Marie and their sweet little daughter and son. I can’t wait for my next cup of cappuccino.

An inspiring comment . . .

I wanted to share a comment I received from a high school friend whose path has crisscrossed with mine. I truly  believe that inspiration, like happiness, is contagious. You see, I’m constantly catching it from you, my clients, my friends and my family!  I hope today you are inspired by someone or something so you can pass it on.

“So you inspired me to the life I have always wanted.  I realized no one would hand it to me …wishing and dreaming needed to progress to actually doing something about it. 1 month later my house is packed and my husband and I will embark on the next adventure of a lifetime, 9-15-2011 is a big day for us. Will be toasting each other and a toast to you dear friend and mentor. While I am not able to yet go to Macedonia with you and enjoy that red wine..it is on my new list of dreams…Diane Berry Purser”

Thank you, Diane, and best wishes for your new and exciting adventure!

What’s on your list of dreams? What one thing can you do today to move you closer to your dreams?
