Patrice encourages all of us to identify and follow our dreams, because she knows first hand that Wishful Thinking Works.

Patrice Koerper Robson is a United States Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, who served in Macedonia from 2006-2009 beginning at the age of 53. She is one of only 460 people over the age of 50, who have served annually in the United States Peace Corps (Approximately 6% of the Volunteers who serve each year are over the age of 50).

Patrice loves Macedonia, and is happy to have traveled back to the tiny, mountainous country many times. Her first return trip was in the fall of  2010 for two months to visit friends and work on projects. She traveled back again for a month in 2011, and as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer for four months from 2012-13. 

In 2016, she and her wonderful husband, Dan, spent their extended honeymoon in Macedonia combining five weeks in the ancient and beautiful city of Bitola with side trips to Venice and to the Isle of Corfu. Patrice was also a Response Corps Volunteer in the Republic of Georgia for four months from 2011-12, which she plans to revisit in the future.

Patrice’s main passion and occupation is Wishful Thinking Works life coachingworkshops and presentations, which combined with her family and friends and travels with her husband, are all part of the life she is really wants

 

 

 

 

30 Days New – Day 6

Day 6 – “30 Days New”

Today is the sixth day I am posting about doing something new everyday for 30 days. (Click here to read how I got started, here to read about what I did yesterday.)

I realized this morning that while it is becoming a little more difficult each day to think of a “New” thing to do, any discomfort I am feeling from having to find “News” is completely offset by the fact that the challenge of seeking out a daily “New” is making me feel stronger in general and also bolder about what I choose to post.

IMG_1119 (1)Today is proof of that. I am posting a poem I wrote in 2011. I have a tendency to write my thoughts on 3 x 5 cards. I have filed away hundreds of note cards – in both organized and random fashion – that are covered with reminders, ideas for projects, stories and posts, and quotes and original thoughts that matter to me.

When I recover one of my mini-journals of sorts, I am always surprised by what I have jotted down – either because I don’t remember writing it, or I do, but can’t remember why I didn’t integrate the comments, plans or advice into my life! 

Day 6 Results

I found peace today.
Rolled up in an unexpected moment in a newly discovered place.
I sat soaking up the sounds in the safety of the shade.
I remembered who I was and why I am here.
T
hen stepped gently back into my life.
Knowing what I needed.
Grateful for giving it to myself.

30 Days New – Day 5

“30 Days New – Day 5”

This is an easy “New.” As of today, I have posted five days in a row. I post often, this is my 560th post as a matter of fact, but I don’t think that I have ever posted 5 days in a row since I began the Wishful Thinking Works blog in February in 2010!

Day 5 Results – A nice sense of accomplishment. I am truly enjoying the feeling of a job well done. When I started my “30 Days New,” it never sunk into my sweet little brain that doing so would mean I would be writing 30 posts in a row. I was so focused on doing new things, somehow I missed the fact that I would be blogging about them everyday.  Good news is, I am enjoying it – the discipline and daily sense of accomplishment – feel good. It’s invigorating and rewarding, like sticking to a new exercise plan.

What can you do today to give yourself a feeling of accomplishment? What tasks need tackling? What calls need to be made? What plans need to be put into action? What “News” could you try? Go for it; I guarantee you won’t regret it.

“30 Days New” – Day 4

Day 4 of my “30 Days New”

My Day 4 “new” involved taking a new risk in the direction of my dreams. I am working on three totally different projects at the moment, and today I was reminded that taking a risk on one made it so much easier to move forward with the others. One thing led to another and before I knew it I was following through on plans I had long considered, but not completed.

Yesterday was one of those days when everything worked – my avocations blended seamlessly with my vocation, which left me feeling refreshed and fulfilled. I decided to celebrate by spending the late afternoon relaxing in the shade on the patio with a good book and picked up, “Inner Journey to Conscious Leadership – Ten Practices For Leading Consciously”, which was written by Paul Ward. The book is informative, intuitive and inspiring.

IMG_1078 His chapters on purpose and possibilities are my favorites. Paul included the story I am now sharing with you; it has taken up residency in my mind and is working its way into my heart. I think it is a great reminder about what really matters in life. Let me know what you think . . .

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But a few days later he came back to return the stone to the wise woman.

Day 4 Results – A deep sense of satisfaction and balance knowing that risks in the direction of our dreams are always rewarding in and of themselves, and they can also free us up to relax and explore new ideas and insights or to simply sit and think about what really matters to us.

I hope you make time this summer to take a risk in the direction of your dreams, and then to sit back and savor the moment.

“30 Days New” – Day 3

Day 3 of my “30 Day New”

Wednesday, June 25 was Day 1 of my “30 Days New” – for 30 days I am doing something new or something I used to do, but haven’t done in ages.  You can read why I got started here.

Today I painted in the backyard. I love painting, but I always feel that whatever I do isn’t good enough. I try now and then, but after a day or so I drop it. Pretty silly, I know, but the truth is, when it comes to art, I hold myself to some very silly standards!

Today I reminded myself, once again that it is about the process not the outcome.

A critical voice in my sweet little head tried to lead me astray a number of times, but I simply took a deep breath or two and assured myself and the nagging voice that everything was going to be just fine, and continued painting. (We all need a bit of reassurance at times, don’t be afraid to face your fears and respond to those negative voices in your head in a kind and gentle manner. No need to beat up on yourself up, for beating up on yourself!)

Besides, I was having too much fun siting in the sun, straw hat tilted on my head, pretending to be a Monet protégé to let a few negative thoughts keep me from my goal.

 Day 3 Results: An hour of fun in the fresh air, with a sassy side of artistic day dreams, topped off with a hatful of confidence and courage knowing I was enjoying the life I really wanted – – less judgement and more creativity and fun!

I encourage you to start something new or return to something old; to gently calm any critical voices that may arise and to enjoy an hour or two, or even just a few minute, of courage and creativity.

PS I am excited about tomorrow, and I don’t even have a clue what will be new!

“30 Days New” – Day 2

Yesterday was Day 1 of my “30 Days New” – for 30 days I am planning to do something new or something I used to do, but haven’t done in ages.

I started by making pasta, which turned out to be relaxing and fun. I have wanted to make it for years, but honestly didn’t have the confidence that it would turn out well, which is odd since I know I am a good cook and I’m a blue ribbon pie baker. I guess it simply took me a long time to stop listening to my own excuses! I am glad I did because I have other pasta recipes I am looking forward to making, and now, instead of worrying about the outcome, I’m focused on the fun of the process.

Day 1 Results: Surge of pride and confidence, not bad for so little effort. Delicious, too. Also great memories – my Mom often made noodles. I can still picture hundreds and hundreds of golden egg noodles drying in the sun on our dining room table. Wish I had her recipe now.

Day 2 – A risk in the direction of my dreams

Today’s “New” is really a yesterday leftover, which is completely acceptable according to my personal “30 Days New” rules, which you can check out here.

IMG_E1064My “New” for today was wonderful. I was part of a 6 person conference call regarding writing the second edition of a book that played an amazing role in my personal and professional life. Win or lose on this one, I took a risk in the direction of my dreams, and I am already enjoying the rewards of the experience.

Day 2 Results: Delight and excitement! Fun talking with such talented people.
